#OnThisDay 14 October 1960 Warragamba Dam was officially opened. Construction started in 1948 and took 12 years to build.
4,000 people attended the ceremony, many of whom were the workers and their families.
The unveiling ceremony was performed by the Premier, Mr. R. J. Heffron. It was performed in a symbolic, possibly unique, manner, with, the aid of one of the buckets which poured the 1,600,00 cubic yards of concrete in the wall.

It is estimated that 10,000 people visited the dam on opening day.
