The records that are made and kept by NSW government can have multiple uses - including, for a small proportion of them, permanent retention as part of the State's archives. This includes records that are made and kept using digital systems.

The NSW Government's approach to the protection and accessibility of these valuable records is to migrate them into an environment managed by State Records NSW: the Digital State Archive. There are a range of tools, services and advice to assist in this process.

Public offices can also use these for their own migration and digital continuity planning, regardless of the disposal status of the records.
