#OnThisDay 28 December 1850 Henry Parkes established the 'Empire' newspaper. The newspaper was a success and it was soon published daily, allowing Parkes to comment on day-to-day politics.
Parkes was elected to Parliament in 1854 and was Premier of NSW on several occasions. He was an strong advocate for the federation of the six colonies of Australia and is often referrred to as the 'Father of Federation'.
