We hold NSW School Files from 1876 to 1979. These are the correspondence held by the Department of Education about an individual school.
You might find information such as: applications to have a school in an area; letters about the school buildings or if it moved site; letters about the teachers who taught there; complaints by parents; inspectors reports about the teachers and the teachers' responses to those reports. There might be diagrams and plans of the school as well.....all sorts of things. The files really are a fabulous source, not only for school history but also for the history of a local community. Find out more in this episode of Archives Behind the Scenes.
